Mayfair Gold Corp.’s Fenn-Gib gold project has been designated under Ontario’s ‘One Project, One Process’ (1P1P) framework, making it the fourth project selected since the framework launched last October. The designation is material for investors tracking development-stage gold companies, because permitting timelines are among the largest sources of schedule risk and capital cost inflation in mining projects. By consolidating permitting into a coordinated process and cutting duplication by half, per the province, 1P1P reduces a key variable that historically has delayed Ontario mining projects by years.
The project requires capital investment of approximately $322 million (C$450 million) and is projected to create 250 long-term operational jobs, 450 construction jobs, and contribute $2.15 billion (C$3 billion) to provincial GDP. Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce indicated the government plans further permitting acceleration this fall, a signal that regulatory efficiency remains a policy priority — a favorable structural backdrop for any company with Ontario-based assets in the development pipeline.
Fenn-Gib is located approximately 17 km east of Matheson in the Timmins gold district, one of Canada’s most established gold-producing regions. Established districts carry practical advantages: existing infrastructure, a skilled labor pool, and nearby processing and service ecosystems, all of which reduce execution risk relative to greenfield projects in remote jurisdictions.
Mayfair Gold’s preliminary economic assessment outlines a 15-year initial mine life, an open-pit operation with on-site processing capacity of roughly 4,800 metric tons per day, and an indicated gold resource of approximately 4.3 million oz. Project engineering is underway, permitting and site preparation are expected to continue through 2028, and construction and commissioning are planned between 2028 and 2030, with first production targeted for 2030.
CEO Drew Anwyll characterized the designation as reinforcing Ontario’s commitment to responsible, investment-ready mining development, noting that the framework provides coordination and predictability through permitting and development. For disciplined investors, the relevant considerations are straightforward: verify that the resource estimate and PEA economics hold up through feasibility-stage work, monitor gold price assumptions embedded in project economics, and track capital raises required to fund the C$450 million build. Permitting acceleration improves the timeline, but financing and feasibility outcomes remain the primary determinants of whether the 2030 production target is achieved.
