Perseus Mining (ASX, TSX: PRU) has acquired 28 containerized generator stands for its Nyanzaga gold project in northwestern Tanzania ahead of its planned first gold pour in January 2027.
South-African power engineering firm USP&E emergency power system provides backup electricity at the mine, which is located far from a dependable grid supply.
USP&E entered the project through ECG, the Australian electrical and automation engineering consultancy that is managing engineering, procurement and construction of the project.
Perseus is looking to pour first gold at Nyanzaga in northwestern Tanzania in January 2027, a project that once fully operational will account for 28% of the company’s gold production until the end of the decade.
“Nyanzaga is a strong example of what USP&E does best: powering mines in frontier markets, where conditions are tough,” USP&SE MD and co-founder, Matthew Fredericks, said.
The emergency power system created by USP&E comprises 28 Cummins KTA50G3 1 MW containerized generator sets, six 72 000-litre bulk fuel tanks, three pump skids and 28-day tanks. Containerization keeps installation fast, and the fuel system allows the plant to carry the mine through an extended event, USP&E said.
The mine is expected to have an output of more than 200,000 ounces of gold annually during its first 14 years of operation, making it an important contributor to Perseus’ longer-term production plans.
