Toto Finance aims to help miners raise money by selling digital claims on copper before it leaves the ground, founder and chairman Monty Metzger told The Northern Miner in Colorado Springs.
Metzger outlines that vision in his new book, Tokenization: Capital for Humanity. His U.S.-based company is developing digital claims on refined copper stored in Arizona and on future mine production. Its first warehouse-backed copper transaction was still in the making when he spoke late last month at the Mining Forum Americas.
“They don’t like to wait 30 days for a settlement of a trade,” Metzger said of technology investors funding industrial projects. “They don’t want paper trails and DocuSigns and sending around.”
For miners, the pitch is access to capital ahead of production; for buyers building data centres and other infrastructure, it’s a way to secure future supply. Toto now must show it can raise money for miners before production starts and ensure buyers get their copper on time.
