Mining shares could deliver outsized gains if investors shift even a small portion of their technology holdings into resource companies, Sarmaya Partners Fund Manager Wasif Latif says.

A slowdown in AI data centre spending could prompt investors to seek businesses generating growing cash flow, including gold and silver producers, Latif told The Northern Miner’s Western Editor, Henry Lazenby. The San Antonio-based investment manager who controls more than $35 million, sees parallels with the shift away from technology after the dot-com boom.

“And given the large size of the capitalization in the tech space, that’s a big, big elephant of capitalization that’s going to need to go through a tiny keyhole in the small capitalization of this space,” Latif said late Sept.

The potential rotation forms part of his “Return to Tangibles” thesis: inflation, national security spending and years of underinvestment could sustain a commodity upswing as more investors recognize the opportunity.
