E3 Lithium Inks Memorandum of Understanding with India’s Epsilon CAM for Lithium Carbonate Supply

Calgary-based E3 Lithium has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Epsilon Advanced Materials’ cathode active materials (CAM) unit in India, setting out a framework under which the Canadian developer could supply battery-grade lithium carbonate to the Indian manufacturer.

The agreement links E3 Lithium’s Alberta lithium resource ambitions with India’s rapidly expanding battery supply chain. Epsilon CAM, part of Epsilon Advanced Materials, is building cathode production capacity in India as the country works to localize electric vehicle battery manufacturing. Under a memorandum of understanding, terms are non-binding and would typically be followed by offtake negotiations and definitive agreements before any supply commitments take effect.

For E3 Lithium, the MoU represents another step in its strategy to demonstrate demand for lithium products from its planned Alberta operations. The company is advancing its Clearwater Project, which aims to extract lithium from brines in the Leduc reservoir using direct lithium extraction technology, a process designed to produce battery-quality lithium carbonate without conventional evaporation ponds.

E3 Lithium (ETL.V) traded at $1.03, unchanged from its previous close, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $90.6 million. The stock’s flat session came as the announcement was made public.

MoUs of this kind have become a common feature of the lithium sector as downstream battery makers seek to secure raw material sources and upstream developers look to validate their future production with credible counterparties. Conversion of such agreements into binding offtake contracts generally hinges on the developer reaching final investment decisions, securing project financing, and demonstrating consistent product quality at commercial scale.

India has set aggressive targets for domestic electric vehicle adoption and battery manufacturing, and companies like Epsilon CAM are central to that buildout. Access to diversified, geopolitically stable lithium supply is a stated priority for Indian battery producers, which have historically depended on imports from a concentrated set of producing countries.

What to watch

  • Progression of the MoU toward a binding offtake agreement, including volume, pricing structure, and duration terms.
  • E3 Lithium’s milestones on its Clearwater Project, including permitting, financing, and construction decisions.
  • Updates from Epsilon CAM on the ramp-up of its cathode active materials capacity in India.
  • Lithium carbonate price trends, which influence the economics of new supply projects globally.
  • E3 Lithium’s upcoming quarterly results and any revisions to its development timeline.
