Miners captured a record 60% of the Toronto Stock Exchange’s annual list of its 30 top-performing companies, or TSX30, as strong precious and critical minerals stocks propelled the sector to its largest showing yet.
Eighteen mining companies made the 2026 TSX30, a 57% increase from 2025. The TSX30 measures three-year dividend-adjusted share-price performance.
Montage Gold Corp. (TSX: MAU) ranked second overall this year, with a 2,502% three-year dividend-adjusted share-price appreciation.
Silver and gold companies still dominated the rankings, although with less representation than in 2025. Copper, rare earth and other critical mineral developers also secured spots.
Faraday Copper Corp. (TSX: FDY) posted a 688% three-year gain, while Aclara Resources Inc. (TSX: ARA) advanced 587% and Trilogy Metals Inc. (TSX: TMQ) rose 570%.
The wider mix of commodities suggests investors are assigning greater value to companies exposed to critical minerals as global demand rises.
Eleven out of the 18 mining companies on the list graduated from the TSX Venture Exchange, showing the junior sector’s role in supporting mining companies progress from exploration toward larger-scale development and production.
“Half of this year’s top performers are graduates of TSX Venture Exchange, a powerful example of how Canada’s capital markets can help build the next generation of Canadian champions and support them as they grow into globally competitive companies,” TSX CEO Loui Anastasopoulos said.
Ranking rules
The TSX30 draws from companies that meet a series of listing, share-price and market-capitalization requirements.
The 494 companies that qualified for the 2026 ranking had to have been listed on the TSX on June 30 this year and either have traded on the exchange for at least three years or graduated from the TSX Venture Exchange.
Companies also needed a closing share price of at least C$0.50 and a minimum market capitalization of C$75 million ($53 million) as of June 30, 2023.
